Key scenes to be removed from Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad in the wake of Colorado cinema shooting

Due to the tragic events of the cinema shooting in Aurora, Colorado in which solo gunman James Holmes opened fire on the audience at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, the decision has been made to remove and re-edit the upcoming release of Gangster Squad which features a shootout in a cinema.

The death of twelve people and wounding of more than fifty has resulted in drastic action from Warner Bros; many international premier events for Batman’s release have been cancelled as well as TV spots being removed from the air on its opening weekend.

The scene in Gangster Squad (some of which can be seen in the trailer below) inevitably draws unsettling comparisons to the shocking event and many scenes will now be re-shot and re-edited. Starring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin and Anthony Mackie, it was felt that for such a high profile film, leaving such scenes in would be an unsettling reminder for many people of the shocking events that have passed.
