2013 SAG Award Nominations Announced

14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations Announcement

Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Skyfall and Les Miserables tie in nominations.

With awards season well on its way and gaining momentum on the road to the Oscars there have been nominations and award ceremonies left right and center but with the release of the SAG Award nominations this morning, the race has truly begun. There are a few surprises but generally things look as they should be. As the name suggests, there are only acting categories in this award ceremony so all that sound, editing, and general ones we have to sit through at the Oscars can be bypassed to get straight in to the good stuff. Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Skyfall and Les Miserables all received four each for their formidable casts though surprisingly Joaquin Phoenix failed to be nominated for his spine-tinglingly unhinged performance in the Master, something that i’m hoping will be rectified in the Golden Globes tomorrow.

There was also a surprise nomination for Nicole Kidman in Paperboy for best supporting actress. The film was widely panned by critics  and though it is not yet out in the UK, not much has been said of Kidman’s performance that I am aware of, besides the fact that she pees on Zac Ephron in one scene!

In the best actress category all the nominees have been recieving Oscar Buzz so there are not really any upsets there though five year old Quvenzhane Wallis in Beasts Of The Southern Wild and Emmanuelle Riva’s turn as a stroke victim in the devastating love story Amour were also passed over but alas, there is only space for five nominees!

The ceremony will take place on Jan 27th, so be sure to tune in if you can as the SAG’S are often a strong indication for the Oscars. Golden Globe Nominations are also out tomorrow so be sure to report back here for the latest news. I don’t know about you but I can hardly wait!
